Injection Molding Design
Moldable part geometry designed around real tooling and gating constraints.
Overview
Injection-molded parts live or die on decisions made long before a mold is cut: wall thickness consistency, draft angle, rib-to-wall ratios, boss design, and where the parting line and gate will sit. Getting these wrong shows up as sink marks, warping, short shots or a tool that costs far more than it should.
We design molded parts with these constraints built in from the start, and review existing designs against them where a part is already modeled but hasn't been checked for moldability.
This service pairs naturally with DFM review and Engineering Drawings — many engagements combine all three so a part goes from moldable geometry to a toleranced, quote-ready drawing package.
Who this is for
- Products moving into injection-molded production for the first time
- Teams whose existing part design needs a moldability pass before tooling
- Companies wanting gate and parting-line guidance before selecting a molder
Process
Volume & material fit
Confirm expected volume and candidate resin, which shape design decisions.
Moldable geometry
Wall thickness, draft, ribs, bosses and undercut elimination or side-action planning.
Gate & parting-line guidance
Recommend gate location and parting line to guide tooling quotes.
FAQ
Do you design the mold tool itself?
We design the molded part and provide tooling-relevant guidance (draft, parting line, gate location). Mold tool design and fabrication is typically handled by your molder or a specialist toolmaker, and we're happy to support that handoff.
